FINALLY!

After years of waiting for a 200mm f2.0 (or f1.8) native-mount lens for mirrorless cameras, it finally arrived. The Sigma 200mm f2.0 DG OS Sports. This is a beauty. The moment I’ve seen this personally, I immediately placed a reservation slot. Yeah, it took ages to arrive (boohoo) but the important thing is it is here! Same with most mirrorless lenses, this is a huge improvement over DSLR equivalents. The size, the speed, the price, all of these are heaps better!

My initial worry was having to carry around this kind of lens for long photo sessions but after my first shoot, I was able to confirm that this is more than hand-holdable and that there is zero need for bringing monopods even for long sessions.

The quality of photos from this lens is just very special, and unique. This is a famed focal length / aperture combination a lot of portrait photographers love. And unlike some prime lenses, this is something you would probably be using wide open because it is tack sharp at f2.0.

Unless I have space constraint, I will most likely be taking all of my portrait sessions with my Sony Alpha α7RV and Sigma 200mm f2.0.
